Explanation: The first hop was my home
IP address. Then it went to a network which is located a mile or 2 away from my
house which is why it took 8 more milliseconds to read. The location of the 2nd
hop’s IP address was over by Springfield Gardens, Queens. It went to this
location because it was the nearest public Verizon Network, to the previous hop.
The 3rd – 9th hop was quite some distance, it went all
the way to Wichita, Kansas, now transferred its connection to Dial Up, rather
than having a standard Broadband connection which is slowing down. The 10th
hop was located in Boston, MS. The 11th – 13th hop was
located in Newburgh, NY. The last hop was located in Manhattan, NYC. The reason
it timed out, was because it attempted to trace all possible routes to the
york.cuny.edu network, but it was unable to find it, so it went further and
further out into the country and returned close to the original IP, and
cancelled the search (Request timed out).
This protocol is given when a network blocks there ICMP for security reasons,
so the only way I can trace a route to this network is if I’m within the
network area itself (on campus).
